Into the Wild.
"There is pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society where none intrudes,
By the deep sea and the music in its roar,
I love not Man the less, but Nature more."

Into the Wild is a film about the true story of one young man, Christopher McCandless, who, after graduating from college, decides that he is fed up with society as it is. Fueled by a strong resentment of his unhappy parents, he takes sudden and drastic measures to break away from it all and go "into the wild". His ultimate destination is alone in Alaska, but it takes him nearly two years to get there. Until then, he hitchhikes across the country, meeting fantastic and loving characters while collecting a few rather profound truths.
The story itself, while incredibly thought-provoking, is only amplified by the awesome soundtrack by Eddie Vedder. A great movie all-around for those ready and willing to take a peek on the inside (of themselves, that is).
Here are my notes on a few of my favorite parts...
Quotes:
"It's a mistake to get too deep into all this." - words of warning from a newfound friend on the road to Chris, or, as he goes by for most of the most of the movie, Alexander SuperTramp
"The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences." - when he is challenging his 70-something year old friend to get off his ass and climb a mountain
"You're wrong if you think the joy of life comes solely from human relationships." - what he tells the old man once he makes it up the mountain (yay! he made it!). The old man promises to take that with him.
"When you forgive, you love. And when you love, gods light shines on you."
(suddenly the clouds part and sunlight shines on them)
"Holy shit!"
"I told ya!"
"Happiness is only real when shared." - one of the last things Chris wrote

Instructions for Dealing with Personal Dilemmas
Hate is not a real emotion.
It is a mask for real feelings.
Consider the honest feelings of others.
Of them, confront those that are unjustified.
Address, discredit, and dispel those unjustified feelings.
Now consider the honest and justified feelings of others.
Because you know that these feelings are both honest and justified/rational, you must accept them as truth.
Accept them wholely, into your heart.
This is not always easy, but you must accept
every
piece
of this truth before you can move on.
Now, take a moment to be happy.
For, despite how you feel about the knowledge you have come to accept, you have found a pure truth and you have recognized it. This is a great feat.
Many people come across truths all the time, but rarely do they recognize them.
You have gained great knowledge and you will have this forever. This cannot be disputed.
Now that the equation has been simplified, seeing as how you have recognized the truth, you have the great freedom to do as you will, to act as your heart truly and deeply desires.
You are free from mistaking

dishonest feelings for honest ones
